Fine 18th-century ebonised and brass inlaid 8-day longcase clock by George Blagden of Chichester

Ebonised & Brass case in the form of a large bracket clock on a pedestal.

The bracket type hood with original brass and ebonised finials, brass feet, fretted red silked sides with centre brass and red silk and brass door decorations.

Original 8 Day bell striking five pillar movement with a 12x16 inch dial, with painted moonphase to the arch and a fine matted centre, with date aperture and alarm dial, silvered Roman numeral chapter ring with Arabic minute markers to the outer, inscribed George Blagden, Chichester.

The lower case in the form of pedestal again has full brass decoration with an 11cm lenticel to the door, of which the original brass pendulum and weights can be seen through.

The clock has been fully restored by a professional clock smith and case restorer and looks absolutely superb.

George Blagden of Chichester, Sussex 1725-1806

George Blagden of Chichester is listed as only working for a short period of only 12 years (1768 - 1780) he didn’t make many Clocks but those he did were all of good quality, not many of his clocks have come to market in the past and those that do demand premiums.

He was baptised in Chichester in May 1725 and died in 1806 and is recorded as giving surety for several marriages.
